The Clerk's Office is responsible for docketing all cases filed with the Supreme Court of Texas, ensuring that the rules governing filings and the filing requirements are followed, collecting fees, issuing orders and opinions, and helping licensed attorneys with name changes and certificates of good standing. The Clerk's office also maintains the Court's administrative orders and posts all case filings on the Electronic Briefs page.
The Clerk's Office also serves the Multidistrict Litigation Panel.
Electronic Filing
All attorneys are required to file all documents with the Court through the efiletexas.gov electronic filing system. To use the electronic filing system you must first choose an electronic filing service provider and register. Please choose an electronic filing service provider and register today!
Through the efiletexas.gov filing system, you can electronically file documents, pay your fees, and serve opposing counsel. No paper copies are required when filing electronically.
If you are not an attorney, you may file using the traditional paper method. Please send us the original and an unbound copy of your filing if you are not an attorney and do not wish to use the electronic filing system.

About The Clerk
Blake A. Hawthorne is the Clerk of the Supreme Court of Texas. The Court appointed Blake to a four year term as the Clerk of the Supreme Court of Texas on August 1, 2006. The Court reappointed him to a second term beginning on August 1, 2010 and again on August 1, 2014. Prior to his appointment to Clerk of the Court, Blake served the Court as the Staff Attorney for Original Proceedings. Before joining the Court, he was an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Texas and an associate in the law firms of Wiley, Rein & Fielding in Washington, D.C. and Jackson Walker in Fort Worth, Texas.
Blake graduated magna cum laude from Tulane University with a degree in Anthropology and Spanish in 1992. The faculty of the Anthropology Department awarded him the Robert Wauchope Award as the most outstanding graduate that year. While a student at Tulane, he spent his junior year abroad studying at La Universidad Complutense in Madrid, Spain. Blake graduated with honors from the University of Texas School of Law in 1996. He is Board Certified—Civil Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
Blake is the President of the National Conference of Appellate Court Clerks (NCACC) and Immediate Past President of the Austin Bar Association Appellate Section. He is also a member of the Judicial Committee on Information Technology (JCIT) and serves as the Co-Chair of the Electronic Filing Subcommittee.
Blake is a native Texan, who was born in Austin, Texas. He is married to another native Texan and Austinite, Wendy Harvel, who is an administrative law judge with the State Office of Administrative Hearings. They have two daughters - Sophie and Eva.
