Alternative Licensing
Applicants must meet one of the two requirements set forth below to be eligible for this option. Determinations are not made until your application, and all required documentation has been submitted to our office.
- You must hold a current license, in good standing, in similar scope to the type of license they seek in Texas, or
- You must be a former JBCC licensee within the 5 years prior to re-applying.
Applicants in this category do not have an exam requirement.
To apply for licensure, you must do the following:
- Submit the application for certification via our online licensing system. Select the fee waiver option for Military Applicant.
- Pass a state and national background check.
- Submit the required documentation as shown below.
Those licensed in another jurisdiction must upload the following documentation to their applications:
- Proof of being a military service member, their spouse, or a veteran.
- A letter from your licensing authority on its letterhead which confirms the information below.
- Your license number,
- Your expiration date,
- The type of license you hold,
- The name you're licensed under, and
- That your license is currently in good standing.
Those licensed by the JBCC within the 5 years prior to the date of your application must upload the following documentation to your application:
- Proof of being a military service member, their spouse, or a veteran.
- An affidavit which confirms the information below.
- Your former Texas license number,
- The date you became licensed in Texas,
- Your expiration date, and
- The name you were licensed under.
- A copy of your former license, in lieu of the affidavit is also acceptable.
