In 2013, Governor Rick Perry appointed Justice Johnson to serve on the Ninth Court of Appeals. She was elected to the Court by the voters in 2014 to serve the remainder of an unexpired term, and she was then re-elected in November 2018 for a full six-year term. She is the first woman to serve on the Texas Ninth Court of Appeals in the history of the Court.
Justice Johnson graduated magna cum laude in 1983 from Southern Arkansas University with a B.S. degree in political science. She graduated from the University of Arkansas School of Law with High Honors in 1986. While in law school, she was a member of the Law Review and the Moot Court Team, served on the Moot Court Board, and worked part-time. Following graduation from law school, she received a federal judicial clerkship and worked with United States District Court Judge Nauman S. Scott, Western District of Louisiana.
Before joining the Court, Justice Johnson was in private practice for twenty-six years. While in private practice, she handled trial and appellate matters for individuals and businesses. Justice Johnson is board certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Personal Injury Trial Law..
