Sue Walker (2001 to 2018) 

After growing up in Amarillo, Texas, Sue Walker earned a bachelor’s degree in speech communications from The University of Texas, graduating with high honors in 1982.  She then attended law school at Texas Tech University, graduating in 1986.  After receiving her law degree, she spent a year clerking for Justice Bill Stephens with the Fifth Court of Appeals in Dallas.

After her clerkship, Walker practiced appellate law at Keith & Wagner, P.C., a Fort Worth firm.  In 1990, she returned to the Fifth Court of Appeals as a central staff attorney.  During this time, she became Board Certified in Civil Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. She then opened her own appellate practice in downtown Fort Worth.  In 2000, she successfully ran for a seat on the Second Court of Appeals and took office on January 1, 2001.  She served on the court until she retired in 2018.

Throughout her legal career, Walker received numerous professional awards and honors, including the 2012 Distinguished Alumni Award from Texas Tech University School of Law and the 2009 Charles J. Murray Outstanding Jurist Award from the Tarrant County Trial Lawyers Association.  She was also named the 2012 Outstanding Jurist by the Texas Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates and was elected to membership in the prestigious Serjeant’s Inn of the Dallas and Fort Worth Inns of Court, an honor that recognizes long and meritorious service to the Inns of Court and the legal profession.  And in 2020, she was honored as a recipient of the Silver Gavel Award for distinguished judicial service.

In addition to her professional achievements, Walker has played an active role in her local community.  She has served on the boards of a variety of civic and charitable organizations, including the Tarrant County AIDS Outreach Center, Compassus Hospice, Dance Theatre Arlington, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Arlington, and the Lamar Baseball Booster Club, and she has served as both a YWCA Cheerleading Sponsor and a YWCA Softball Coach.  She has volunteered as a Republican Party precinct chair and as an election judge, and she was a member of the Republican Women of Arlington for many years.
