Phlete Augustus Martin Sr. (1935 to 1936)

Phlete Augustus “P.A.” Martin Sr. was born on September 8, 1866, in Rowan County, North Carolina.  Martin attended the University of Texas School of Law before being admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1886.

Martin spent eight years near Graham, Texas, serving as a county attorney.  He then spent four years as District Attorney of the 30th District, eventually becoming the judge for this district.  By 1911, he had moved to the Wichita Falls area where he opened a law office.  He left private practice in 1920 when he was appointed by Governor William Hobby as judge of the newly established 89th District Court.

Martin served as a district court judge until he resigned after being appointed by Governor James Allred to a position as a justice on the Second Court of Appeals.  He served as an associate justice until he died on March 31, 1936, in Fort Worth.  He was buried at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Graham, Texas.
