Joe C. Spurlock (1975 to 1983)
Joe C. Spurlock was born on August 31, 1910, in Throckmorton County, Texas. He received both his B.A. and LL.B. from The University of Texas.
He began practicing law in 1933. In 1968, he was elected as judge of the 96th District Court in Tarrant County. He served in this role until 1974 when he successfully ran for a vacant seat on the Second Court of Appeals. He served as a justice on this court until 1983, when his son, Joe Spurlock II, succeeded him.
Spurlock was a member of the Tarrant County Bar Association, Texas State Bar Association, the Petroleum Club, and the Fort Worth Club. He also helped to create the Texas Trial Lawyers Association. He passed away on February 5, 1989, and was buried in the Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park in Fort Worth.
