Frank P. Culver (1950 to 1952)
Frank Pugh Culver Jr. was born September 25, 1889, in Birmingham, Alabama. He received his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University in 1911. After working as a teacher and a principal, Culver attended the University of Texas School of Law, graduating in 1914.
After graduating, Culver began a private law practice in Fort Worth. His career was interrupted by the beginning of World War I, during which he served as an artillery officer. After the war, he was appointed by Governor Dan Moody as the judge of the 17th District Court. He rejoined the military during World War II. After being discharged, he was elected as a justice for the Second Court of Appeals. In 1952, he was elected to the Texas Supreme Court, where he served two six-year terms before he retired.
Culver was the first president of the Goodwill Corporation and was a member of the commission that drafted the charter for Fort Worth’s system of government. He died on April 10, 1980, and was buried in the Greenwood Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Fort Worth.
