Chief Justice

Earl P. Hall (1946 to 1952)

Earl P. Hall was born in Montague County, Texas, in 1904.  He attended Texas Christian University for two years and received his law degree from Cumberland University.

Hall passed the Texas Bar in 1926 and practiced law for ten years before being appointed judge of the 97th Judicial District Court by Governor James Allred. After serving on the trial bench for about nine years, he was appointed as an associate justice on the Second Court of Appeals.  In 1951, he was elevated to chief justice.  After narrowly losing his race for reelection in 1952, Hall moved from Fort Worth to Austin, where he became the general counsel for the State Bar of Texas.

During his short tenure as Chief Justice of the Second Court of Appeals, Hall authored over 40 opinions.  A prominent real estate investor throughout the state of Texas, Hall owned many buildings in Nocona and opened a twelve-story apartment building in Fort Worth.  He practiced law until he died on January 2, 1983.  He was buried in Wichita Falls, Texas.
