COURT SETS HEARING ON LEGAL SERVICES
Texas Supreme Court justices will take testimony September 11 on needs and accomplishments by state legal aid organizations providing civil law services for the poor.
The public hearing, set for 2 p.m. in the Court’s courtroom in Austin, will feature reports from the Texas Access to Justice Commission and the State Bar of Texas. Other groups and people who want to testify should give written notice to the Court no later than September 4, indicating whether the comments will be in person at the hearing or submitted in writing, or both.
The Texas Access to Justice Commission serves as the umbrella organization for all efforts to expand access to justice in civil matters for low-income Texans. It was created as a result of hearing on the status of low-income legal services in September 2001.
The commission will make summaries of its report available September 2.
An agenda will be posted September 8.
