STATE BAR AND SUPREME COURT OF TEXAS COOPERATING WITH INVESTIGATION INTO ALLEGED MISAPPROPRIATION OF FUNDS

The Supreme Court of Texas and State Bar of Texas today notified the Travis County District Attorney’s Office regarding a potential misappropriation of funds by a State Bar employee, who serves as a deputy clerk of the Supreme Court of Texas.

The employee has been suspended without pay pending the investigation.

The State Bar of Texas discovered several questionable checks as accountants worked to reconcile bank charges with a Supreme Court of Texas account primarily used for reimbursements to lawyers who overpaid annual fees.

The State Bar of Texas and Supreme Court of Texas are cooperating fully with the investigation.
